The old saying is absolutely true:
only a virgin snow is the real freedom!
Of course, in a competition, the locations of the checkpoints determine the course, but skiing in untracked snow is still joyful and adventurous. Skiing in virgin snow is not exactly a game, and therefore encounters with other skiers are genuine and appreciative.
Syöte is at its most beautiful in February, because then the snow melts and shapes the spruce trees into incredible sculpture parks.
In the evening, at the night camp, everyone closes off to their own campfire circle to take care of themselves and their teammates, but at the same time, the sound of dozens of neighboring campfires makes the evening wonderfully communal.
